Alver Valley Garden Centre

The Brief

Alver Valley Garden Centre is part of the ‘Your Local Garden Centre’ group and is located within the Alver Valley Country Park, a stones throw from the Solent coastline. Opened in April 2022, the 5,516m2 building includes a large restaurant area, covered external plant sales area, children’s play area, meeting/function room and area for numerous retail partners.

The site was taken on by Paul Richards and Tim Mason with the aim to expand their already successful portfolio of centres; Mappleborough Green and Stansted Park. Newspan were fortunate to work with Paul and Tim on the previous two sites and were thrilled with the chance to continue their working relationship on Alver Valley.

The Solution

Early discussions with Paul and Tim were clear; the specification was to be in line with Stansted and Mappleborough Green to provide the same look and feel. Paul has always been keen on a bright building interior, which meant specifying painted secondary steelwork (purlins) to match the internal linings of the roof and wall cladding panels. The exterior of the building was also designed to match the previous projects and black composite clad walls were used – providing a barn like appearance.

There is also a large external plant sales canopy which has a galvanised steel frame to protect the structure from the elements and the sea air. White purlins are also used in the plant sales canopy.

The end result is a building that is fits in perfectly with the ‘Your Local Garden Centre’ group and will no doubt be an extremely popular site with the local community.
